I guess I will kick off the new year with a hearty hello! That is, according to this calendar it seems like. Back home this would be the Guardian Moon.

Anyway, that's not really what this is about. While it's a little early to think about gardening, I wouldn't mind getting a head start. My home doesn't really do cold months, you see. Cold nights, sure, but snow and ice? Not really. So I really thought about taking up a hobby of mine, you know?

I went ahead and threw together a list of the plants I am looking to cultivate. Looking for anyone who might be able to help a guy out. I've scribbled some rough drawings together, but ignore my messy handwriting. Embarrassing, I know.

Hanging planters, Huh... I think a few might be helpful depending on if I can get a hold of some of these items on my list. They'd probably do better starting off hanging like that.

But no, I'm not really looking to start a business. I probably could, but I don't know that I trust people like that.

...With flowers?

Oh, are you worried people might have different meaning for flowers where they come from, so any bouquet they order could kick off an incident?

Hah! Imagine asking for flowers with meanings of love and getting something really awful instead!

Like you would benefit from giving your captain a bouquet made of zinnias, alstroemerias, and probably orchids.

I looked up a couple of flower meanings for a project but what do those mean?

Maybe you should test it and find out!

If I give her a bouquet of those, it's not going to say something like "You Make Me Feel Itchy" right?

I can guarantee that it won't be anything that says "You Make Me Feel Itchy."

Hey, thinking about some members of my family make me feel itchy so I thought I had to check.

...Family, huh?

[This gives Darin pause. Considering everything that's happened, everything they've been through...would he consider Zelda to be family? Darin has no more blood relations save for his brother who came back from the dead. His adopted father Acteon is certainly family. And so is Kessler, the man who trained him how to fight.]

[Zelda's given him a home here but is she family? Part of Darin would like to think so, but the logical part of him understands that Zelda will be going back to Hyrule some day. Back to her home. To Link. Her real family.]

[The thought sits in the pit of his stomach...so it's best to just ignore it and change the subject.]

See, that is a particular subject that might take us a while. It's also one where I'd go "where do I even start?"

The majority of us don't get along is the shortened version.

Ah...I can kinda relate.

My twin brother and I don't really get along. He was dead for almost twenty years but he came back with a bit of a chip on his shoulder.

I thought I heard you say he was dead for twenty years.

Oh yeah he was killed when we were kids but uh...he's back?

Listen, I'm as confused as you are. We only crossed paths before I got here and he kinda laid out his whole scheme to make my life hell. And even then his explanation for being back was that he "clawed his way out of hell."

And I think he meant that literally? A lot happened.

There have been some pretty crazy things that had happened where I'm from too. But I don't think any of them included literally crawling out of hell.

Why would he want to make your life miserable?

Because people always treated us differently and I think...

I dunno. I think dying twisted him up.

You try spending two decades in hell and come out smelling like roses.

I think...he resents me. For surviving.

Treated you differently in what sense? Details like that can be important too.

[ Because the reasons matter. More than what people tend to realize. It might be that dying really changed the other's outlook on it all. Resentment and all of that, sure. But not just aimed at Darin. ]

He might resent a lot of people, really.

Uh...threw rocks at us. Accused us of being the reason our mom died. Called us freaks. Most of the time it was other kids but...well, kids mimic what their parents say.

So...yeah, pretty sure he resents the entire world.

Sure sounds like it.

Some things really don't change across worlds, huh?

I don't know.

I'd like to think there's a world out there where people just don't care how other people look. And even then, I try and hold out hope that humanity isn't that far gone.

[ That's a good mindset to have. Darin might have just earned some points. ]

I'm sure there is a world out there like that. And if there isn't, then there's probably more that are trying to make their world just like that.

Heh...here's hoping. Don't even get me started on the topic of social reform. I don't think there's enough hours in the day.
