I guess I will kick off the new year with a hearty hello! That is, according to this calendar it seems like. Back home this would be the Guardian Moon.

Anyway, that's not really what this is about. While it's a little early to think about gardening, I wouldn't mind getting a head start. My home doesn't really do cold months, you see. Cold nights, sure, but snow and ice? Not really. So I really thought about taking up a hobby of mine, you know?

I went ahead and threw together a list of the plants I am looking to cultivate. Looking for anyone who might be able to help a guy out. I've scribbled some rough drawings together, but ignore my messy handwriting. Embarrassing, I know.

Ah I wouldn't have thought to use magic to grow the plants anyways? That might change things and I can't really afford to do something like that to them.

I was really only trying to make them hardier, since it's a lot colder here than where they're from.

[There's a couple minutes of pause. And then a picture of Kaveh standing out in the snow under one of those absolutely ridiculous morning flowers. Nine feet tall was not an exaggeration, and the damn thing is still blooming in winter.]

That's. Hmmm. You've got yourself a bit of a situation there, Kaveh.

You should have seen them in summer.

That's closer to their normal blooming season.

[It was very pretty but kind of. Riotous.]

They're healthy, and I don't have to worry if I'll be able to harvest enough for perfumes, I suppose.

Perfumes? That a thing you're into?

Why not? Perfumes and colognes are essentially the same thing, just branded differently. And it's nice, to smell a little bit like home.

[He sighs a bit wistfully. He misses Sumeru every single day, Khalid, you have no idea.]

I guess I can relate, but more so the foods and drinks. So many things here can be bland. Especially the coffee and the teas.

Now that is a problem I can fix for you, my friend.

[He turns and wanders into the hedge of plants, then emerges a second later holding a spikey orange fruit.]

If your home's anything like mine, then harra fruit might give you the kick you're missing.

[ Kaveh... You're something else. Claude just looks at the strange fruit and - ]

So what kind of "kick" are we talking about?

Spice, Khalid.

[He laughs a bit.] Alhaitham was using a black pepper sauce to try and replicate it before the rifts spit out the seeds for these. But the flavor wasn't quite right...these probably won't taste quite right to you, but it's worth a try, right?

Black pepper isn't really going to bring out much in the way of a flavor profile though.

[ Sure, it has a bit of a burn but that's not all there is. But if that's all one has on hand... ]

Now this is me saying that I would absolutely try this. How bad could it be?

See, when you say it, I believe you can handle it.

[He laughs again.] I'll bring a jar of it with me to the cafe and hold it there for you.

I should hope I could. My parents would be so disappointed in me if I couldn't.

[ Well his father would be "disappointed" in the sense that, well. What Almyran son wouldn't be able to handle their spices?

He shakes his head, chuckling. ]

Sure, sure. There is something I want to bend your ear about when it comes to the cafe anyway.
