I guess I will kick off the new year with a hearty hello! That is, according to this calendar it seems like. Back home this would be the Guardian Moon.

Anyway, that's not really what this is about. While it's a little early to think about gardening, I wouldn't mind getting a head start. My home doesn't really do cold months, you see. Cold nights, sure, but snow and ice? Not really. So I really thought about taking up a hobby of mine, you know?

I went ahead and threw together a list of the plants I am looking to cultivate. Looking for anyone who might be able to help a guy out. I've scribbled some rough drawings together, but ignore my messy handwriting. Embarrassing, I know.

If you are not so inclined, you must have some other related trade or skill. Perhaps cooking? Dyes? Medicine?

You don't really want me cooking, let me just put that out there.

What I can say is that in order to test poisons on yourself, you have to be really good at making antitoxins, which do fall under medicine.

[ No one wants Sherlock cooking either. The food will look unappetizing, and he's just as likely to get distracted and start experimenting with something midway. ]

I've never met someone who considered ingesting poisons a hobby, and yet stranger things have happened in this world.

[ Okay, maybe he doesn't have to worry as much about this guy and potential murders. ]

I wouldn't call THAT the hobby. More like that's not the sort of thing that I would take volunteers for, considering all of the ways that it could go wrong.

In that sense, you may find some like minded people here in both knowledge and morals.

[ He means more in the way of medical and scientific people but yeah. ]

In a positive way or a negative way?

That would entirely depend on what you want.

Now that's the sort of answer I would give someone. Are you sure you're not reading off of my notes?

To say it plainly, no. Your handwriting leaves much to be desired when it comes to readability.

Exactly. See, my good sir, you understand. So it's better to just make the writing so illegible that no one really bothers.

[ He has fun breaking ciphers, though he's not sure how the magic of this world would effect such an endeavor. He is really curious about it. ]

I pray you invest in a typewriter should you leave messages for anyone else. The information is bound to be loss otherwise.

[ He might be fishing to see if this is deepstar's normal handwriting or an inventing one for this purpose. ]

A what now? What's a typewriter?

[ What? For once he's not the one who isn't behind in technology? ]

It is a tool that stamps a letter onto a sheet of paper when a key is pressed. Each key corresponds to a different letter, number, or symbol.

[ Insert a sketch of a typewriter done by Sherlock. ]

[ Congrats. Sherlock is not the one that is furthest behind. They still use ink and birds and all sorts of things like that. ]

Oh that's kind of neat. How fast does the ink dry like that?

[ It's a surprise to be sure. ]

The ink dries quickly enough and can be refilled. The typing also sounds pleasant.

[ At least it does to Sherlock because of the associations he has with the sound. ]
