I've heard it customary to lay plans for the future upon the new year. Saying your goals out loud has always helped me to achieve them, so I'm curious to know what goals you have planned for yourself. Be they large or small.

I've nothing grandiose for myself— only to be a better person. A person worthy of friendship, and to continue to help those around me.

[ And after a small pause: ]

—Maybe open a petting zoo, at this rate.

Teaching? I'm surprised you're not already a scholar.

Oh, I'm a scholar of considerable accomplishment, but I confess that I never had much patience for teaching despite my belief that knowledge ought to be shared.

[The last time he had tried, however, he had been a much younger man with a considerably higher opinion of himself, and no patience for anyone who couldn't keep up. Times have changed, and so has he.]

I feel that time and experience may have tempered me somewhat and I may be better suited to it now.

[gruffier]

That's good to hear. I can see you in a classroom of some design of your own.

[ With how knowledgeable Gale seems to be, Clive thinks he would be well suited for the role! ]

What sort of topics would you teach?

I'm most inclined to help aspiring young magic users find their way, I admit, but there are other subjects I find myself passionate about, as well. Literature, astronomy, history— I suppose teachers of any kind are often seeking to fill a need, are they not?

[That said, he has more than once seen a need for magical tutelage in this place.]

Magic is something rather new to many who find themselves here and suddenly capable of it. Perhaps they could use a bit of guidance.

Influx of magic users... I hadn't really thought about it— but you're right. Most don't have the proper training, and I'm certain you're more than capable of guidance.

I might have to sit in on one of your lectures.

Well, while I'm not one to sing my own praises— [yes he is] I would hate to think all those years studying under the Blackstaff and being guided by one of the greatest wizards Faerun has ever known were for naught.

[He is considerably humbler than he once was, but a little namedropping here and there can't hurt... especially given that he's in a place where those names don't mean anywhere near as much as they once did.]

I would be more than happy to have you! There are always opportunities for growth and learning, regardless of your level of experience— especially when one considers how very different the worlds many of us come from are. Truly, the possibilities as to what we may learn from one another are endless!
