I've heard it customary to lay plans for the future upon the new year. Saying your goals out loud has always helped me to achieve them, so I'm curious to know what goals you have planned for yourself. Be they large or small.

I've nothing grandiose for myself— only to be a better person. A person worthy of friendship, and to continue to help those around me.

[ And after a small pause: ]

—Maybe open a petting zoo, at this rate.

Mind if I ask what trouble you mean exactly?

[It isn’t phrased as a leading question. Alfyn genuinely can’t recall what Clive might be referring to - and calling it trouble. They’ve shared drinks and laughs!]

[gruffier]

I seem to cause a bit of trouble wherever I go, and you having to pick up the pieces.

[ The med kit he got for Winterstide, being one example. ]

Well, I won’t argue with you if that’s how you really feel, but I will tell you I just plain don’t see it. All I see is a fella who’s set on doin’ anything he can for people.

[gruffier]

[ There's a quiet, small noise from the back of his throat that Clive makes. He's not really good at taking all this nice talk about him. Really, it's a little embarrassing!!

But after a few seconds he'll recover enough to whisper a gentle: ]

Thank you. We all have a hand in making this star a bit brighter, and I know you have had your hand in a lot of it.

[Alfyn keeps a laugh to himself. One of his best traveling buddies also makes that noise when he finds something touching and doesn't want to let on.

Then it's his turn to be embarrassed. It's entirely possible that his blush is audible.]

Okay, all right, y'ain't gotta go that far. Just like you an' the rest of the crew, all I'm doin' is my best by people.

[And sometimes, it hasn't been enough. But this is a sweet conversation and Alfyn doesn't want to dwell on the bitter.]

Mind if I ask what a petting zoo is?

[gruffier]

[ Oh, he hears it alright! But much like Alfyn he won't seek to embarrass the man anymore than he already has begun to do. So he'll leave the praises he meant to continue for another time.... but don't think he's done just yet! ]

A phrase I've only recently heard. Apparently it's a place where people can come and do just that— pet animals.

[apothecarry]

Oh, huh. You mean like all the cats we've got runnin' around?

[It probably isn't that many cats. It's just that they're experts at being underfoot when you least expect it.]

[gruffier]

That... and the chocobos, dogs, griffins... [ not that they tend to stick around, but they are still there! ]

We seem to be acquiring quite a few. Having a place for them to safely gather has been in the back of mind for some time now.

[apothecarry]

[All of his limited and very brief encounters with griffins have been at a safe distance. The hesitation is readily apparent in his voice.]

Even the griffins? You sure they'll, uh, take to that?

[He doesn't want the Roost overrun with people needing their fingers reattached, you know?]
