Warnings: Totally absolutely completely legal extracurricular activities
Given current events, I've had a few projects I've been pondering. I don't suppose anyone would be interested in making handmade fireworks? With precautions taken, of course, these are just for fun at festivals.
While I'm on the subject, how many of you are familiar with cameras, or other ways to take pictures, in your own worlds? Would you mind telling me much about them.
Ah, and one more thing. I've been considering getting some people together for a research project, of a sort. Or I suppose, something like a study group and a book club. I'd like to discuss it in person, though, so please feel free to drop by the Cafe.

Shame, though. I hate to miss out on food and coffee.

She's not really good at nuance or picking up on implications, though, so she needs things to be clear and laid out simply...or she'll do her best to interpret what she THINKS you meant, and Mehrak doesn't think about things the way a human does.
[What happened to not really sentient, Kaveh?]

So how does she think, if it's not exactly the way a human being would?

Well, that's hard to answer, since I'm not exactly a machine telepath. But she IS a machine, and while her programming is very advanced, she isn't going to be shaped by the biological urges human beings evolved with. Her understanding of sleeping, eating and even playing is via observation and what I've programmed into her.
She can recall and extrapolate from those observations faster than any human ever could, and make connections we might be blinded to because of how our bodies and minds are linked. But by the same token, because she cannot ever truly understand what it is to inhabit a flesh-and-bone body, her logic is based only on observable facts.
I wouldn't say she's heartless, or unsympathetic--Mehrak's very friendly--but how do you explain grief to a being that cannot die nor feel pain? The world she experiences is very different than ours.

Yet you love your little machine with all your heart all the same.
It's really adorable, Kavs.
