Given current events, I've had a few projects I've been pondering. I don't suppose anyone would be interested in making handmade fireworks? With precautions taken, of course, these are just for fun at festivals.

While I'm on the subject, how many of you are familiar with cameras, or other ways to take pictures, in your own worlds? Would you mind telling me much about them.

Ah, and one more thing. I've been considering getting some people together for a research project, of a sort. Or I suppose, something like a study group and a book club. I'd like to discuss it in person, though, so please feel free to drop by the Cafe.

For the first two, I'm not much help, though I'd be glad to hear of your findings.

As for the latter - hardly a surprise, but of course you could count me in. I'll be by the cafe as usual this evening with bells on.

Now, I won't stop you from musical accompaniment, but you needn't bring any bells.

I do think this endeavor might be exactly up your alley, Professor.

Haha - just a turn of phrase! Believe you me, you'd not want me anywhere near a musical accompaniment of any kind. I can accomplish many things, but being anything other than tone-deaf is not one of them.

You've certainly piqued my interest, my friend. I have a feeling we have much to speak about.

[It takes a bit, but eventually Alhaitham is just gonna give his husband A Look from his usual spot in the cafe after having seen the post that has been made.

He's not gonna say anything out loud (since the cafe is still open and people are around) but you know what you did, senior. He trusts he doesn't need to elaborate.]

Where's your sense of festive spirit, Haitham?

[Kaveh snorts, but that's as close to acknowledging it as he's gonna get while he brings the man his coffee.]

[The cafe itself is...pretty normal, despite all that's been happening. There's a sign up that says Corsair customers will need to place their orders through Mehrak or the self-serve machines for the time being, and asking customers to please maintain a safe distance from one another when sitting down, but otherwise life proceeds as normal.

Kaveh's tinkering with something at the counter, so he won't notice when Cyrus arrives, not immediately. Shadowlily does, though. Shadowlily demands pets.]

You should be glad that I'm the only one who knows that fireworks are mostly an Inazuman tradition.

[Just makes this comment as he takes his coffee from Kaveh's hands. Sure they're a bit more widespread these days, but the fact remains the same.]

Well, we're not in Inazuma or Sumeru, are we? No reason not to borrow from other cultures for the festivities.

[Kaveh just rolls his eyes, but since the current mill of customers has to be served by Mehrak, he's gonna just flop down next to Alhaitham.]

i could see if some magic would work with the fireworks. i've read a bit about imbuing spells into things.

we have cameras but don't use them much. they're primarily from other worlds. coming here and using the shellphones makes me thing it's a missed opportunity, really.

a research project? i'm cleaning right now but can come by later?

I'm simply pointing out the flaw in your logic.

[With Dehya no longer here the two of them are the only ones from Sumeru now... and sure the others of Teyvat can chime in, but he highly doubts that they will or even care.

Anyway, he is never against his husband taking a break, so its a simple matter of shifting just enough to have Kaveh settling down comfortably next to him, and another to loop his arm around his husband's waist like so many other times. He's still got his book open with his other hand, though he's mostly now just reading to get to a good stopping point. Just give him a bit and he'll be fully available for you, Kaveh.]

Magic...now that might be interesting. It's not something possible in Teyvat so we'd have to experiment with it.

I've been wondering if there's a way to take better picture of text. The way things were uploaded onto the Akasha won't work here, but it'd be nice to be able to pull up information on the phone instead of risking your book getting wet, wouldn't it?

It's not really a flaw in the context of this situation. I never claimed what I was doing was a Sumeru-specific activity, no?

[It's alright, Kaveh's arranging himself comfortably and peering over to the pages, checking out whatever Alhaitham's reading this time. he's quite curious.]

The research group ought to be more your focus.

[Alhaitham huffs here because yeah, Kaveh may not have claimed it, but there's certainly enough of a lead in for people to make that assumption in his opinion. But like he said earlier, there's nobody around now to point it out, so its more or less a moot point.

As for what he's reading, its nothing too alarming (for once); its one of the many books that chronicle the (known) history of this world, though this one is written with a very present bent towards the Paladins. It's one of the books Alhaitham had gotten quite early on after first arriving in this world, and while back then he didn't take too much note of that particular fact, he's looking through it now with renewed interest.

With his focus momentarily back onto the book, all he does is to hum an affirmative to his husband's words, eyes now locked over the pages of the book as he continues to read through them.]

[Kaveh can guess what brought on this reread, so he quiets himself down and just lounges while he waits for Alhaitham's attention to be available. It's comfy like this, and for a minute he can almost pretend none of this nonsense is going on.

He's starting to regret being mad he missed all the action in Sumeru, now. What's the phrase? Careful what you wish for?]

[Alhaitham takes a while more, mostly because he'd ended up reading all the way to the end of the current chapter before deeming that a good stopping point for now. He marks that out and puts the book to the side for later before he turns and press a kiss to his husband's temple without any preamble.

He's always appreciated the other's company, but the whole thing with the brands has him appreciating Kaveh even more. Had he been on the Corsairs when this all happened he would have easily jumped over without thinking twice, if he hadn't already done so earlier. The idea of having to be separated from Kaveh due to some inane grouping that they're not even involved in would have never sat right with him from the get go.]

[It's because of that, that Kaveh is so sympathetic to the couples who haven't been so fortunate. He suspects changing armadas won't be an easy task in the current state of affairs, and moreso for those who have more serious ethical qualms about one side or the other.

Still, that's why he's doing this in the first place, tipping his head up into his husband's face with a faint smile as he stretches his legs out more comfortably.]

Anything interesting?

[Alhaitham hums approvingly to the way Kaveh tips his head up, clearly favorable to this action, but he doesn't linger for too long since he doesn't want to be too much of a distraction right now. That'll be for later.]

Mmn, not at the moment. [He responds after finally pulling his face back, though with his other hand free it means he can reach over and tuck back the strands of Kaveh's hair that'd fallen over his face.] Most of it has been nothing more than biased recounts of general events.

I suppose it'd be too easy if the answer was convenient to find.

[Kaveh smiles a little wryly.] That's what I aim to ask people to be looking for. Biased the accounts might be, they're the accounts we have...and I have a suspicion a solution to this might be in parallel to other long-term solutions.

[Alhaitham hums again there—he'd more or less suspected as much, considering things as they are right now.]

If none of the Paladin-biased texts prove effective I'll look into the ones I have from Nogard. [Because what better way to see the shortcomings of one side by looking through another's viewpoint—in this case, the Corsairs.]

...We could probably ask Khalid and G'raha to get more, if the ones you have don't prove any use.

[The implication being that they can already get and share what they can find in the conservatory.]

That's my hope, anyway. What people do with the information is up to them--I know what we're going to do with it, anyway.

it's not something i'm practiced with, either, but might be a good opportunity to make something interesting.

hm... yes, that does sound convenient. a way to turn the text of a book into the same kind of text we can read on the shellphones?

We might want to go down to the beach to experiment. Sand's useful in the case of...incendiaries.

Something like that. Even an easier way to transcribe things would help. Mehrak can do most of these things for me already, but there's only one of her, and I'm not loaning her out.

It's not urgent--this is more of a long-term project anyway.
