Sorry, occupational hazard. You get used to saying a lot of goodbyes in the military— or not getting to say them, I guess.

Ah, no, don't apologize. I understand how that goes. I was in the military for a bit and my current occupation is similar. It's easy to get lost in thoughts about who will be next. Or what you didn't get to say to who. I'm sorry you've been there.

Sorry you have, too. I think it's a pretty common story around here, though; there's at least a few of us. It helps to remember that you're in that line of work for a reason. Worth the risk, right?

Not sure if that's a good thing or not, that there's so many of us I mean.

True enough. Though I suppose that's a positive to this place, a chance to do things other than that.

That's what I think. It's the gift of time, right? Even if we don't really know how much we have, we can do whatever we want with it while we're here.

It almost feels overwhelming to try to decide what to do.

I think they call that choice paralysis? When you have too many options.

What about you? Have you figured out what to do here?

Mostly, I've just been trying to make myself useful. Take what I know and what I did back home and see if I can use it to help people here— maybe have some fun in the process. It's going alright, so far.

I worry a little about finding something more permanent. Like it'll make me forget what's important outside of this place.

We're in the same boat there. That's really all I've been trying to do myself.

I think I could understand that. From what I understand some people have been here a long time. It could be easy to start to think of this as your real life

It could be. The longer you're here, the easier it would get, don't you think?

I'm a little worried about that happening to me. I like it here, but it's not my real life. I don't want to forget about what I left behind.
