It must have been sheer desperation. Like the first man who decided that eating a snail was an option--no other choice to keep messing with the thing until you figure out how you can keep it down without it kills you.

Or oysters, for that matter. When you get down to it they're unappealing little blighters to the eye.

I would eat snail or oyster before things with toxins every day of the week, though I've had reason to eat that too.

I always thought it would be a strange thing to survive the battle to be killed by one's food.

Aye, I'd be right brassed off if I turned up in the afterlife for poison food, of all things, after all the danger I've fought through.

In honesty, I as well.

Perhaps daredevils or those who are culinarily obsessed are the ones who discovered. Or ones failing to poison their enemies.

Wouldn't that be embarrassing? You're sitting there waiting for your little murder plot to bear fruit and then it turns out all you've done is started a culinary craze.

I suppose an enterprising sort would ride their success and pretend it had been their plan all along, but I would certainly consider myself a failure til the end of my days. Not that I know much of poisons.
