That's what I mean! Whatever kind of needle they meant, the idiom's meaning doesn't really change. They're going to have a rough time hunting for any of those, in a haystack or anywhere else.

Different cultures have different versions, also. "Like blood from a stone" for example, or "scarce as hens' teeth".

"Blood from a stone!" That one, I've definitely heard. Gets used a lot in Orzammar, though my family has always lived on the surface. "Scarce as hens' teeth" is a new one, I oughta bring that back with me.

The latter is a rather colloquial turn of phrase from 19th century Appalachia, which likely means about as much to you as "Orzammar" does to me, though contextually I assume it's subterranean?

Yup, you got it. Home of most of the dwarves in Ferelden— that's the country I'm from. It's underground and built over tunnels that go down even deeper, but my family has always lived topside. Most people who live there have never even seen the sky, and don't plan to.
