TWO TRUTHS AND A LIE

There have been a lot of riftfarers arriving lately. It seems like there have been more arriving than usual. So many different kinds of people from different kinds of worlds with stories to tell and experiences to give.

A little game has appeared on the shellphone network in hopes of getting to know just a little more about these otherworlders. You might find it on your shellphone as you’re scrolling through one day.

Tell the world two truths and one lie about yourself. And let others try and decipher which of the three is your lie. If they can guess right, perhaps you’ve been able to make a new acquaintance. Or in the least learn more about someone from another walk of life.

Two truths and a lie, huh...

Alright!

Okay first! My first crush was a woman in the knighthood and one of my first jobs as an apprentice was making her armor which required precise measurements. I spent the following week patching my adopted father’s roof after I threw a hammer through it. My Old man has yet to let me live it down.

Second! Before I arrived here, I was approached by a fortune teller who somehow managed to pick up on my most closely guarded secret. Naturally, I was calm about it and in no way did I immediately destroy her stall in a panic. After that, she wouldn't leave me alone and followed me all the way to Eruyeka where my brother kinda accidentally proved her entire fortune was accurate.

And third! Back when I was still figuring out how to hide my abilities, I dyed my hair black to try and hide it from people. I figured if I looked normal, no one would question it. I had black hair for about six months before I decided to give it up.

1) I once out-calibrated an artificial intelligence hivemind. Out of spite. 2) My homeworld has no insect life. 3) I learned “the tango”

1) Once killed a pile of tentacles the size of a hill with lamp oil.

2) I’m compiling a monster bestiary for this place.

3) I can see in the dark.

[Huh, someone submitted someone right before him? Oh, that's Zelda! Well, he knows her pretty damn well. Let's see if he can guess this.]

['Not actually a researcher?' Hah! Oh Zelda, you're adorable. You still think people can't tell you're a princess? Pretty sure if you started singing, Chopper would just appear somewhere and sing with you, that's how much of a princess you are.]

[...A golden horse? Okay, seriously, you're kind of proving my 'totally a princess' theory because if anyone could tame a golden horse it's—]

[Wait what was that second one abou—]

[Zelda can hear Darin coming from at least a mile away. It sounds like a train rushing down the pier where the Heroine is anchored. There's yelps of surprise, a few errant splashes as cargo/people/whatever either dive out of his way or are just shoved into the open water. Followed by a rapid -thunkthunkTHUNKTHUNKTHUNK- as Darin hits the literal deck running.]

[The door to her quarters flies open, one of the hinges totally shattering.]

I KNEW IT!!! I TOTALLY KNEW IT!! I KNEW IT THE ENTIRE TIME!!!

[Despite the volume in his voice, Darin is actually not mad. He sounds...triumphant?]

I KNEW YOU TWO HAD A THING!! IT'S THE MOST OBVIOUS THING IN THE WORLD AND I CAN READ YOU LIKE A BOOK!! YOU LOOK AT HIM LIKE HE'S MADE OF FREAKIN' STARLIGHT AND WHO THE HELL WOULDN'T?! I THREW THAT LUNATIC AT MACH THREE ACROSS THE OPEN OCEAN AND HE SWAM BACK AND ASKED ME TO RACE! HOW COULD YOU NOT WANT TO DATE THAT?! I WOULD DATE THAT!! I TOTALLY, ABSOLUTELY, ONE HUNDRED PERCENT CALLED IT!!

NICE TRY WITH THE GOLDEN HORSE BECAUSE IF ANYONE COULD TAME A GOLDEN STALLION IT WOULD BE YOU BUT I TOTALLY KNEW IT THE WHOLE TIME! REMEMBER WHEN I ASKED YOU ABOUT IT BACK IN YOUR APARTMENT AND I LOOKED AT YOU LIKE YOU WERE CRAZY?!

I WAS RIGHT!!

Hm. Ah, I'm not sure. [Because. It's.....Darin. Really all three are possible to some extent because it's him.....]

The third one? About dying your hair?

[Because clearly somehow?? That is more likely than the first two?? I guess??]

I sincerely hope that 2 is the lie because if it were not, then I have more reason to call both you and Darin idiots for your relationship confusion this past year.

[ Zelda's not even paying attention to the shellphone anymore. After responding to the amusing new game on the network, she sets her phone down and goes back to work, promptly putting the whole thing out of mind.

So when she hears a commotion on the docks through her open window on the Seventh Heroine, she's no more prepared for the force of nature charging down the pier than anyone else. Zelda gets up from her desk and hurries to the window, trying to see what's going on--

--when all of the sudden, the door to her cabin flies open with such tremendous force that it smashes against the wall behind it a very loud, very crunchy -CRACK-

Depending on how Darin is holding his shellphone, Zelda may or may not be visible, but everyone will be able to hear her SHRIEK when Darin bursts in. ]

D- Darin! What are you--? Wait a--...!

[ She tries several times to interrupt his rant, but unsurprisingly, she can't get even a word in edgewise. She can only stare in bewilderment as Darin rattles off nonsense about starlight and mach three and things he would date and/or call, which finally culminations in a triumphant declaration that he was right!!1!

There is a full second of silence before Zelda manages to speak. ]

Darin, what in Hylia's name are you talking about?

1: i'm the youngest in my crew back home. probably my crew here, too, actually....

2: i accidentally killed my first mentor by giving him a poisoned mushroom when i was trying to help him get better.

3: my bounty is the biggest of my crew back home!

[Darin is clutching his phone because he'd just finished recording his own submission to the game. Anyone watching will get blurry footage of the inside of Zelda's cabin on the Heroine as he wildly gesticulates in his perceived triumph.]

[So when Zelda looks perplexed, Darin has to take a second.]

'What in Hy&mdash' What do you mean 'what am I talking about??'

[Darin hurriedly turns his shellphone around to find the post, his face locked in concentration. When he finds it, he smirks victoriously and turns the device around to show Zelda, broadcasting her fully.]

Here! Your two truths and a lie! Seriously? A Golden Horse?? That's a terrible lie! But that's not what I was right about! I knew you and Link had a thing! I knew it the whole time! I mean come on! The Princess always falls for the hero!

And before you say anything, I'm not mad. Well, I mean I'm a bit cranky you hid it from me when anyone with eyes could totally tell but still! I knew I was right!

Wow, really? It was that obvious! Good guess, Chopper! That was the lie!

I really really really hope its the second one.

The first one I can believe and I think I can believe the second one considering your skill with medicine. You can probably rack up a crazy bounty that way

[Darin...]

...The second one is the lie.

[He has never seen you react calmly under fire even once, Mr. Altway.]

A golden horse? It must really have been exceptional to see.

[He's not commenting on the first two because, well. he knows the first one is true and he has some Concerns about Zelda's taste in men in regards to the second one.]

Nope! Nice try! The third one's the lie. I'd never dye my hair, even though I did consider it when I was younger because I just wanted to fit in.

[He should proooobably tell Darin he's live and broadcasting this to the entire network...but to be honest Kaveh's usually the one making this mistake so he's a little fascinated by what's happening here, carry on.]

I feel like I have an unfair advantage on this one.

[ There's a little pause before another message follows, ]

We weren't that bad, were we?

Huh. I want to say the second one— I think you did do a little property damage in a panic! I think anyone would, to be fair.

[Good way to let off steam!]

Plus, wouldn't she have better things to do than to follow you all that way?

E-eh? I got it?!

[Look, there was a one in three chance. But he still wasn't entirely sure....? Mostly because. It's Darin. Even just from what he knows of the guy from his time here with him, any of those seem possible at least?]
