I've been here a few weeks, and this isn't the first time I've found myself in the position of being an outsider. So, I just have to ask. What's your experience with the locals and their treatment of us rift-farers?

There was an island with a volcano and snail people. A sect of them belonged to a cult and they were trying to sacrifice people. I would stay away from them.

Oh. That's a shame. [ He might have liked to see the volcano. ] I hope you're not speaking from firsthand experience with them.

I am. It was one of my first experiences here actually.

...And how did you escape?

I went to try to help and got caught. But I'd watched them long enough to know they're slow so I just found an opportunity to run and did. A friend found me later and helped me off the mountain.

A lucky break. I suppose snails can't be too much trouble if you can just outwalk them.

[ Meaning maybe the volcano isn't totally off limits... ]

I think they may have actually gotten a few sacrifices through.

[ but that might say more about who they captured. she's too nice to say that though!!! ]

In any case, I'm glad you're safe. It sounds like you've recovered since our last encounter as well.

I have! I'm so sorry about that.

Thank you. I still feel bad about it though. It really felt bad.

You handled yourself well, and we figured out a way to communicate. The only ones who should feel bad are those taking advantage of well-meaning people like you.

Fortunately, it looks like they haven't shown up with any new schemes.

I like to think they really were trying to find cures to help but I'm not entirely sure.
