All right, I cave.

Help wanted for someone who can engineer a way to keep someone from sinking the second they set foot in a body of water.




And please don't say "swimming lessons" - that's not physically possible without a lot of flotation assistance.

My mistake, I misinterpreted the question entirely. Although it does make me wonder if such an underwater suit could exist. Something lightweight with an engine of some kind perhaps.

As to staying ABOVE water, especially completely, then the suggestions of magic may be your best solution. There's not much that can defy gravity that wouldn't be so cumbersome. Yet even that would only work for a limited time, I would imagine.

They do, but they don't do much of anything for buoyancy. You have to be able to swim. Or use a handheld propulsion device.

Frankly, I'd just like to not drown. If it just keeps my head above water, I'll take it.

Yeah. It's like a propeller, with handgrips attached. You control it from the handgrips, too.

Is this to scale then? Would such a thing be as large as the person?

Look, it's probably not. I'm no artist.

But it's the general shape. It just has to be big enough to propel someone.

Big enough and strong enough. I think I got the general idea now and my try my hand to see if I can't come up with something.

That aside, have you received any other suggestions for your problem?

Honestly I'm in agreement, at least not pure magic. Magitech at least allows for easier solutions with a mix of both. I've been using the elemental crystals as my main source as they have a renewable quality to them, like with the heat sinks I made for you, but...

Hm, perhaps I have an idea. Not sure if it would work, but I could at least try something based off what you've shown me. At the very least it may prevent you from sinking.

I have to say, that modified sink is a hell of a thing. It works great. I barely need to calibrate it - but when I do, it's nice, actually. Gives me something to do.

Hey, at this point, it's that, or sit through Darin begging to launch me in the ocean.

I'm glad it's been working well for you. I've been working on improving it, so you may receive a little gift later once I'm done.

Oh really? I might have to share it, if it works this well. I have someone who could use a good firearm.

Is that so? Admittedly I'd like to limit its use in weaponry, however I could make an exception and help customize your friend's so long as you don't make it too public knowledge.

[Offering it to individuals to help defend themselves is one thing, but to have this get too widespread is another matter since he's not really into the "arms dealing" so to speak. It's the balance he's striking given that his works will naturally bleed into that territory.]

Fair enough - It doesn't have to be as heavy duty as what I use. Even a pistol might be helpful. She's more than capable with just about anything you put in her hand, but that's more familiar territory for both of us.

[He won't argue if the other doesn't want to make a habit of it. Honestly, he could try his hand at the rest of their gear - and part of him really wants a chance to. But the heat sink problem is... well. It's a problem.]

I'm still learning about these firearms as they didn't exist in my world, and yours are even more advanced than what they provide here. But I think I can work out something if she has particular specifications.

Aye, it is. Of course there's no guarantee, but so far they've been able to retrieve some of my old belongings.

No harm in trying at least.
