All right, I cave.
Help wanted for someone who can engineer a way to keep someone from sinking the second they set foot in a body of water.
And please don't say "swimming lessons" - that's not physically possible without a lot of flotation assistance.

Or create a construct, for that matter.

As in... algorithms?

In order to cast a wind based spell, conjurers must understand the nature of wind by communing with elementals. An arcanist would, essentially, come to an understanding of wind through geometric equations. One line might determine the strength of the wind while another focuses on if only one target or multiple are effected.
Thus, theoretically speaking, you could develop a spell that would keep you afloat through a mathematical understanding of what it would take to do so and then bending the elements around you to fit that understanding.

Doesn't sound so mysterious anymore.
[You're all doomed once he sits down and starts using math at the magical world. Because then he's going to have to calibrate it.]

Most things sound mysterious until they are dissected and explained, yes? It just takes time.

[Sorry bud, that's the kind of energy stars put out where he's from. Unless it's solar power or something.]
Frankly, no one did until just now. Doubt it's their fault though, most people seem like they come from a magic-heavy universe.
