TWO TRUTHS AND A LIE

There have been a lot of riftfarers arriving lately. It seems like there have been more arriving than usual. So many different kinds of people from different kinds of worlds with stories to tell and experiences to give.

A little game has appeared on the shellphone network in hopes of getting to know just a little more about these otherworlders. You might find it on your shellphone as you’re scrolling through one day.

Tell the world two truths and one lie about yourself. And let others try and decipher which of the three is your lie. If they can guess right, perhaps you’ve been able to make a new acquaintance. Or in the least learn more about someone from another walk of life.

If you do not know how to swim, you should learn. 'Tis important for your safety here.

I suppose that so much is true.

I've yet to fall into the ocean, though. Perhaps I'm lucky?

I can teach you on the days Kaveh is indisposed. Part of my duties are tending to the Hippokampos. At the very least, I know how not to drown in rough waters.

Double the classes... It seems I am in for a breakneck run of lessons.

[He chuckles.]

Learning to float would be a good place to start.

Floating is a simple matter of understanding density. If you have more muscle mass, it will be more difficult to float, as muscle is heavier than water within the same amount of space.

Take a deep breath of air and extend your body over the surface of the water, facing up. 'Tis easier to breathe that way. Air is less heavy than water.

Relaxing is important as well. If you tense up, you constrict your muscles and end up distributing your weight over a smaller area, and you tire more quickly. You don't want to do either.

Well... I doubt excessive muscle will ever be my concern.

I understand the principles of swimming well enough. It is only that I've rarely had cause or opportunity to put them into practice.

Still... I find that I am rather looking forward to learning.

'Tis good to learn new things. Especially those that might save one's own life, or the life of another.
