TWO TRUTHS AND A LIE

There have been a lot of riftfarers arriving lately. It seems like there have been more arriving than usual. So many different kinds of people from different kinds of worlds with stories to tell and experiences to give.

A little game has appeared on the shellphone network in hopes of getting to know just a little more about these otherworlders. You might find it on your shellphone as you’re scrolling through one day.

Tell the world two truths and one lie about yourself. And let others try and decipher which of the three is your lie. If they can guess right, perhaps you’ve been able to make a new acquaintance. Or in the least learn more about someone from another walk of life.

Dare I ask the circumstances for that?

[ It still sounds horrible. ]

Nothing really.

I was just tired.

But back home, I didn't need a helmet to breath underwater.

[ Wait, what?! ]

Can you truly breathe underwater in your world?
scooba: (Do You Want To)

[personal profile] scooba 2025-12-07 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes.

...

But those who have visions can. Not everyone in my world can breathe underwater.

[personal profile] astudyinviolet 2025-12-07 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Does it then follow that those with visions can never drown?
scooba: (Shutting Down)

[personal profile] scooba 2025-12-07 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose not.

I haven't heard of one drowning before. Not that I want to know about it.

However, that is only in your world, correct? The danger for you and the others from Teyvat exists in this one.
scooba: (Do You Want To)

[personal profile] scooba 2025-12-08 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I am aware.

I do not intend to sleep underwater here. I know I will die if I do so.

That was less an accusation and more a confirmation. I have trouble picturing a world where drowning is less of a threat. Even this world, with its many enchantments and magics, cannot indefinitely prevent a person from drowning.

Oh, I'm sorry.

Fontaine is a little strange. If you're born there and have a vision, there's a less likely chance you will drown. It's...just how it works back home.

[Granted, that was before the whole ordeal with their Archon and having their land be flooded. Now though? He wasn't too sure.]

[ Sherlock makes a note to himself. Fontaine is possibly stranger than other nations, and it involves the inability to drown. ]

It is still quite a thing to hear about.

[ ... ]

What is it like underwater for you in general? I believe you enjoy swimming, do you not?

[ It's something Sherlock thinks he'll only see in nightmares. What lies below the ocean's surface? What can be seen there? Is it just deep sea terrors? ]

It's nice. It's a place where it's quiet and you get some time to think about yourself.

[....]

Especially when things get difficult, the ocean provides a place of comfort for me. You get to see so many exciting things there. Sometimes, I wish people could realize just how amazing the ocean could be.

There aren't many places where one can have the proper environment for thinking. Perhaps that is why some people do not think at all.

[ He often has to retreat into his mind to have a space to think, and now, it is both too disruptive and too quiet at the same time in there. What does that say about him? ]

I understand logically that there must be good and beautiful things under the water, but it is harder for me to believe it.

It's really something one has to see in order to believe. I know not everyone believes in what I see in the ocean but...

I wish there was a way for me to show you and everyone else.

[ Well, showing Sherlock the normal way by bringing him underwater isn't going to happen. He'll black out before he's even halfway submerged. ]

Your stories might be one such way.

..

It's a world where anything could happen. Whenever I go in the ocean, there is a magical feeling as the light hits the ground. Up on land, you have to walk in your legs but in the ocean? You always feel like you're floating as you swim along the water.

The animals there don't talk, and you have to figure out another way to communicate. I can be with your whole body or hand gestures. It only makes it seem like rules back up in the land don't count. It could be frustrating for some but for me? It seems like a fantasy as you enter into a new world.

It's because it's the only place where I feel like I can be myself. I don't have to worry about what the world expects out of me. I can relax and enjoy the wonders of the ocean.

[ Oh... that is something Sherlock can relate to... and now Freminet is separated from that haven by being in this world, this different ocean. ]

I cannot promise that my views on the ocean will change, but if you wish to tell stories of your time there, I'll listen.

The ocean is something I can never experience, and yet I may need a certain understanding for a case or some worldly event. I could do with adding more information to my mind attic.

[ And who knows, maybe learning something nice about the deep might help counteract the Great Lord and the call of the Abyss. Maybe. ]
scooba: (Come Along)

[personal profile] scooba 2025-12-21 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
...

I have to admit, it's probably me who thinks of the ocean this way. I know a lot of people in Fontaine who don't feel the same way as I do.
astudyinviolet: Sherlock puzzled (⩑ The Disappearance of the Strand)

[personal profile] astudyinviolet 2025-12-21 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That may be the case for Fontaine, but that does not mean it isn't the same here. I've heard of people visiting the lower depths for various reasons on a regular enough basis.

[ Sherlock would not be surprised if there was a league or guild of divers in this world. It would be practical for a world covered in water. ]
scooba: (Storm)

[personal profile] scooba 2025-12-22 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I wasn't aware of that.

...Then they must have seen something that was magical. Something that they could only see.

Does this ocean not provide any similar magic to you, or is it too different?
