Hello. I am Alhaitham, scholar and Scribe of the Akademiya. I have been informed by my gracious and kind senior that this network is an excellent communication tool.

It has been brought to my attention that I am severely lacking in social interactions, and that it may be detrimental to my health to stay inside and read all day.

Despite the many flaws in my personality, I am very knowledgeable in a wide range of topics, and am a thorough partner in any academic debate. While my way of speaking is quite strangely awkward and disjointed for a man who studies words for a living, my only criteria for judgement is that you are doing your best for your educational background.

Kaveh will be hosting a small party to celebrate the acquisition of a new home. I look forward to exploring the joys of friendship there with you. If you have any further questions, please forward them to me or to my kind senior, Kaveh.

I've long held a deep fascination for history and medicine theology, myself.

[Oh Alhaitham didn't expect this conversation to continue, but... considering the topic he doesn't really have any objection to it either.]

Those seem to be two very separate topics, unless there is a correlation that exists in your world.

They are indeed two very separate topics, but mostly hold my attention because of my upbringing, perhaps. I've always loved stories and history holds a fascinating and terrifying truth.

As for medicine, more than likely because of my ability with healing magic.

History exists as a record for people to learn and understand the truth of the world as it presents itself back then. None of us can learn and evolve if we do not have past experiences to draw from.

[It is in the uncomfortable truths where the most valuable lessons tend to be gleaned from. This, Alhaitham has learned from all the books that he has read.]

Are you able to explain how your healing magic functions? [It's fine if he doesn't. Alhaitham just wants to know for comparison's sake.]

I wholeheartedly agree. Without history, and history accurately recorded I might add, history is doomed to repeat its mistakes.

[Of course, Joshua knows and understands the unstable way history can be recorded too. It's the very reason why his world is suffering so badly now. And perhaps that is why he wishes to learn as much as he can. Perhaps to become a better historian someday.]

As for my healing magic, I specialize in fire utility. I can control my aether in a way that my flames will heal a wound rather than burn or cauterize it. In some forms, it is called cure magic. And although I can use it I enjoy learning about natural methods of healing as well.

[As much as Alhaitham agrees with the first part of those words, he has seen for himself how people foolishly choose to ignore the lessons that'd been placed in front of them just because they want to be convinced of their own narratives. While he is never one to say that things should be taken at face value, there is a difference between that and ignoring things that have been long established in their truths and proven as such.

Still, there is no use in bringing up any of that, so Alhaitham elects not to, moving instead onto the other part of the response, which by itself already holds far more interest.]

I assume your ability to heal has a limit. [Elemental powers are the same in that aspect, more or less.] Knowing of alternative methods is never a bad thing too. [He is of the opinion that one shouldn't rely on powers given by others all that much, but it is just his personal opinion, and he is well aware of that.]

[And thus, "history is doomed to repeat itself" has become the universal saying. Although Joshua hopes to bring change about that in his home world.

That it does, I can only perform so much healing before I need to rest, myself. It takes a considerable amount of my energy. That is why I hope to learn about more forms of medicine than magic alone. It would be useful to learn how to, say, make a splint for a broken arm rather than just flick my wrist. I think.

[Which might be good for Alhaitham to know. As crewmates, Joshua is currently the only "healer" on the ship and he can only do so much before he ... well... starts having painful asthma-like attacks.]

That is debatable, Kaveh. Seeing as you wrote many things for Alhaitham that don't seem entirely true.

I'd hardly lie about his qualifications, just perhaps exaggerated his willingness to share.

no matter what he insists, human beings can't survive on books alone. He doesn't have to like it right now, but having more than two connections will be better for him in the long-term, especially here.

When you put it as such that is especially kind, Kaveh. He must mean a great deal to you.
