Help wanted for someone who can engineer a way to keep someone from sinking the second they set foot in a body of water.




And please don't say "swimming lessons" - that's not physically possible without a lot of flotation assistance.

Quite understandable, really. I can't say I've ever heard drowning recommended. I am curious, however, as it is clearly more complex than not knowing how to swim. Regardless, levitation may be one of many solutions available to you! I would be more than happy to whip up a potion if you'd like to give it a try.

It is. It's a physiology thing. Our plating is metallic, and even if we could swim, we'd uh. Just sink. There's no buoyancy like any other organic.

You don't have to be aerodynamic or anything, right?

Fascinating. Inconvenient in certain environments, certainly, but I imagine it's not as much of an issue wherever you hail from as it might be here, given the way many species adapt to their surroundings.

Aerodynamics are entirely unnecessary! Regardless of one's weight, size or stature, magical flight will be unhindered, though there is a bit of a learning curve when it comes to navigating and propelling yourself about.

It does tend to help with radiation resistance. Sort of. Not to mention, we've got tech back home to deal with the issue pretty well.

Is it like moving in zero-g, then?

I can't say I have any personal familiarity with radiation, but it sounds terribly useful all the same, if occasionally a touch inconvenient, as in our current environs.

Pardon my needing clarification, but "zero-g?"

Oh - hm. Radiation is... energy, simplest way to explain it. Most suns emit it, some more than others. Too much of it can be deadly, though. A planet's atmosphere usually diffuses a lot of it, but not Palaven - where I'm from.

So... we have the plating, scales, all that.

Zero-gravity. Does... that help?

Interesting. I appreciate your sharing; some of the concepts you mentioned are familiar to me, at least enough so that I may make a reasonable comparison. Your people must be a particularly hardy lot, as a result.

It does, a bit. I imagine it would be quite similar, though I've never experienced a true lack of gravity— but I would consider it comparable, for these purposes.

Glad to hear it. I'm no scientist, just a soldier, most days. I guess you could call us hardier than some, but... not the most in the galaxy by a long shot.

Yeah I guess that'd be hard to experience, here. Or anywhere without space flight.

And you can just - levitate someone?

Easily enough, yes! There's some skill required to cast such a spell, but for a studied wizard such as myself, tis but a simple matter. Scrolls or potions can be used to similar effect, for those who may not have the ability to cast such a spell themselves.

None of this exists where I'm from. It's hard to decide what would actually work best.

Hardly surprising, given how unfamiliar such things are. There's no rush, at any rate, but if the time comes and you would like to try any of the aforementioned methods, you need but say the word. I would be happy to aid, and there is no expiration on my offer.
