Huh. I didn't know that. Just thought they were part of the plant family because they looked like them.

So then... What a plant monster be a plant or an animal?

An excellent question. I presume you mean the ones that are capable of moving around?

We typically classify them as ambulatory flora. So long as they produce energy in the methods plants utilize and have internal structures such as xylem and phloem, they are plants.

But, if they obtain energy primarily in the ways that animals do -- by eating -- and contain internal structures resembling animals, we would classify them as animals, and probably as ambush predators utilizing a form of environmental camouflage, as "monster" suggests an aggressive temperament.

....What if they're both. They both consume animals and have all those structures that would fit, but also absorb light and stuff like plants at the same time? So it's not really more one way or the other?

That is a good question. I wonder how others might categorize us...

I suppose we are animals that share similarities with plants. Much of our internal structures are as you would expect from other fauna, but we can absorb and convert aether--light included--as a primary source of our energy.
