Hello.

I am in need of legal advice regarding a private matter:

Is a marriage contract legally binding if one or more parties involved were under the influence of spiritual possession while it was officiated?

[ Zelda scrubs her face with one hand as she tries to find exactly the right words she wants to use. Because she doesn't want Darin to think she doesn't want to be married to him. It's just complicated when you're a princess. ]

I don't feel shackled, Darin. And it is not because I dislike you. I.. I believe I have been quite clear on that. [ Ahem. ]

But marriage is... complicated when you are heir to the throne. The person you wed will become your consort and rule at your side. For the good of the kingdom, it is imperative that you pick the right person for the job.

[ She sighs again. ]

And that is not a shackle that I wish to place upon you.

...I don't think that's a shackle.

Though...I-I mean, trust me I'm probably the worst person for the job in that regard! I've barely got a handle on myself...!

But yeah I'm...not ready for something like that. I'm nowhere near the kind of man deserving of something like that.

[There's a pause before he clears his throat.]

Th...Th-That's why. Y'know. I'm trying to be better.

[ It's kind of bittersweet how he doesn't think of royal marriage as a shackle. He should never experience the weight of the crown. ]

Better?

[ Zelda doesn't understand. She wants to believe he means that he's trying to improve himself for his own sake; that is why he is training his strength now. But she can't help but wonder if he feels like he needs to be better for her sake, as if he is not good enough for her. ]

[Gods, she's going to make him say it. Somehow, this is a lot more embarrassing than it used to be. Probably because he's not acting with needless bravado.]

I-I...[He clears his throat.]

Whatever...this is. I wanna be worthy of it. And I don't think I necessarily was? And I know...I know you're gonna say that I am. That I'm deserving of...this. Otherwise you wouldn't freely give it. I have enough respect to recognize that.

But you deserve...you deserve who I want to be. And I wanna work towards that.

...I dunno if that makes any sense...

[Gods, he can feel his face burning up.]

[ He's right-- Zelda wants to interrupt him and insist that he is worth it and she would not share her affections with him if he wasn't!-- But Darin takes the argument right out of her mouth (almost word for word, impressively) and she's left with no retort. ]

You are correct; that is what I intended to say. But if you genuinely wish to better yourself for your own sake as well as mine, I shall support you wholeheartedly.

[ Zelda sighs heavily. ]

[Why is he mentally latching onto 'at this time?']

[Regardless, he laughs.]

[There is an audible sigh of relief.]
