Hello, and good day- I am Professor Turo for those who I have yet to meet.
This message is more for those of you that also visited Snaxburg Island and either had one of the creatures there follow you off of it, or may have... unfortunately eaten any of them.
[As he spoke, Turo's tone may have remained calm but there was a serious note to it. There did happen to be a Strabby perched on the desk behind him, a pink bow tied around it, which Turo did know was around but didn't know was there at the moment. There was, however, one he did know was going to be in frame.
Held very much like a hamburger he lifted up a BBQ Bunger so that googly eyes were facing the phone's camera.]
I do in fact mean those creatures like this- for those who might not have gone to the island, or even those who may need a reminder. These creatures that are known as Bugsnax are parasitic creatures that only have that nature turn into something dangerous upon being eaten. So again-
[After setting Chipotle the BBQ Bunger back down.]
Do not eat the Bugsnax, they are parasitic in nature upon being consumed.
If you have eaten any of the creatures found on Snaxburg Island, we may need to have a word or more. Please do get in touch.

... If they're that dangerous, wouldn't it be easier to light the whole island ablaze so no one'd have a chance to visit and decide 'Oh, this walking burger or pizza or whatever look like a tasty snack' is a good idea?
no subject
They are honestly, as far as I can glean from what else is there, rather safe unless someone eats a good number of them.
no subject
[Cause if they did... First, Ranma'd want to know how it tasted, and secondly slap them upside the head because why would you eat an animal... without killing or cooking it first? Oh, and the parasite aspect of it too.]
One of the guys on my crew took a strawberry as a pet. Had the same googly eyes for them. If he doesn't see this, I'll catch him up.
[Because he totally wasn't the one who made the joke about wondering if it tasted good.]

Oh, gods. Sumina goes out for one (1) adventure and this is what happens, she's never leaving her apartment again— ]
Professor Turo,
Thank you for this notice. I assume you were able to study the Bugsnax thoroughly in order to be able to draw such conclusions...
I'm concerned as a friend of mine [ help ] did eat one or two. Please advise as to what I should look out for when observing my friend, and if there's anything I can do to help my friend.
[ she cannot emphasize enough that she is asking for a friend ]
My thanks,
Sumina
Re: private 🔒
Quite a bit, and the discovery of ruins alongside various carvings aided in that.
You will want to keep a close eye on them, and observe for any body parts changing into whatever ones they ate. The more you eat of one type -such as a whole one- will manifest the beginnings of infestation as such. There is also the cravings for more as they wish for you to keep eating them in order to spread through the entire body.
The more you eat, the more in control they are of you. So of course they will create a craving of them from even a taste.

Is there no way to be rid of the parasites..?

(They figured it was some kind of trick. Why would an animal evolve to be enticing to predators otherwise?)
What do they do?
no subject
Destruction was the end result, and only Bugsnax remained. I half wonder if whatever the driving force is feeds that way.
no subject
Fuck.
Do you think it's safe to have them off the island? People might be able to be kept from eating them, but what about animals?

But a parasite? Really? What exactly are the dangers or signs?
no subject
After consumption a part of your body simply turns into what it was you ate. Apparently if enough was eaten the entire body would mimic the appearance of whatever Bugsnax were consumed in various parts, and would continue to do so.
At least the first danger sign would be craving them in order to start that.

Just how much would one need to consume in order for it to become an issue?
[ Two guesses why! ]
Re: voice
Really, even a taste is enough to start the issue.

Action
He comes to Turo's room and glances around, glaring coldly at Chipotle when he spots the thing.]
This is why this venerable one does not wish them on board. He understands you desire to study them and doing so may allow you to help those who have been fools enough to eat them. But they act as temptation for all who they encounter. It is in their very nature.
It would be better to lock them in cages and not treat them as pretty pets.
[Is in going to enforce that as an order? No. Not at this point anyway. Back when the ship was first obtained he would very much have done so. But now, he was more aware of how irrational emotions made people. And he would rather have the relatively low risk the three bugsnax aboard posed than push away people he had come to view as his. People he was loyal to, now, and some that he even called friend.
But he could make his distaste known.]
no subject
Turo was going over pictures he had taken on his phone, notebook open on his desk and kept observations written down. The insides were red, a darker shade of it, and didn't match the substance that the bugsnax appeared to be made of. Like biting into some fleshy and- why keep going? Did they not notice it because of simply finding out they were edible?
There were other pictures that matched, a tunnel lined with the same flesh-like color and... oversized 'foods' scattered about, even stretched out in wrong shapes.
He did look up from that.]
I understand, just as I understand someone's suggestion of burning the entire island down. There is more than enough proof of the danger eating these creatures can pose. Knowing what they are will hopefully combat the same fate falling those here as they did to those who made the carvings discovered. Those people did not know better, until it was too late.
[The worry, and even potential fear of something befalling someone cared for. Something that did look so harmless- and the chance with animals onboard now that wouldn't know better.]
Even then, it is difficult for me not to view them in a light of having some right to exist. I am grateful that you do allow them onboard at all with everything, even missing pieces to that Island.

Seriously, I promise that Wendy isn't dangerous. I've been noting her behavior.

Studying them, they seemed to have a bit of a hive mind mentality. But one of them branched away and followed me back home.
[She shown a picture of her normal Bunger, Wendy.]
Frankly, I wasn't sure if they could even remotely be tamed but this one responds pretty well off the island.
no subject
I found the same as I watched, the patterns of behavior, but also the chaos introduced if one became covered in one of the sauces. Something there capable of cleaning it off at the ready.
You could likely see I had the same with Chipotle there- and little Ichigo.
[The BBG Bunger was still bumping against his ankles, and the Strabby was simply crawling around his desk there at the corner of his vision. Pink ribbon tied into a bow and all.]
They seem far more friendly, less skittish- and more calm, for the Bunger types. Ah, that reminds me; would you be interested in a belled collar for your friend? I am making one for Chipotle to keep better track of them.
[And so their Captain knew it wasn't one that had snuck onboard as a potential danger.]
